Hello, hello! It’s Ashlee, your host here on Readability. For today’s episode, I will be doing another read and review of The Wild Robot by Peter Brown! If you need a recap of what happened last time we read the first two chapters of the book, check out episode 10, because I will not be recapping what happened in the previous chapter, well, not a lot at least.

Part One: The Wild Robot Book Review

Because the chapters in this book are so short, I will be reading 4 chapters, just to make this episode more entertaining and enjoyable. If it seems like a lot to you, trust me, it’s really not. Without further ado, let’s start reading!

The Book Review Podcast

The Review

After listening to me read the wild robot by Peter Brown, it’s time to see what we thought about what I read! Obviously, a lot has happened in the first two chapters. Like, first of all, we met Roz the robot! The chapters were obviously all about her and her exploring her surroundings.

I’ll talk about Roz once we get into the character thoughts segment. Overall, we met new characters and it’s a good time! We see how smart Roz is by learning from the life around her. For example, the crab, she learned how to climb the cliff after watching what the crab was doing and that shows the readers that as a robot, Roz is pretty smart and has a good eye.

Character Thoughts

For these 4 chapters, we actually didn’t meet a lot of characters. The only one I met was Roz! I somewhat talked about who she was and a bit of what she’s like obviously, we know a Roz is a robot. She has the same wording on her torsi like the other broken robots in the robot graveyard, ROZZUM (if that’s how you pronounce it).

We also know that Roz can easily adapt to where she is, even if that’s in the middle of the ocean with nothing but rocks and water and animals. She’s pretty bland for a robot, which is obvious. She hasn’t had enough time to develop, so she’s not going to be super interesting as a character usually would be.

Questions I Still Have

Here are some questions I am wondering

  • Is Roz going to see anything once she reaches the top?
  • Is Roz going to find a way to leave the island she was left at?
  • Did the animals understand Roz?
