For this week’s kickoff session, I’ll need to explain exactly what we are doing today.

First of all, the first half of this episode will be me reading, which I’ll get into more details about the book later on, and I’ll additionally be adding a review of what I think of the book so far. So, no. I am not going to finish the entire book in one episode, then do a review. That would definitely take up a lot of my time and my patience to be honest.

A Must-Read: Benefits Of An Ebook

And, please excuse if my voice sounds off, it’s a bit hoarse so I apologize in advance!

Our Book

Today’s book will be Ghost by Jason Reynolds. This books’ summary basically talks about Castle Cranshaw (more known as Ghost) has lots of experience running, and not in a good way.

He realizes his specialty when he finds this team later on. Besides that, the ghost isn’t a really good kid. He gets in trouble a lot and is involved in fights, which is his weakness! I’m pretty interested in the plot of this story, so let’s start reading!

The Review:

What Did We Think?

Now that we have just finished the first chapter of Ghost by Jason Reynolds, it’s time to look back on what we’ve read so far and see what we think. But, for the purposes of this podcast, what I think.

Yes, we were left on a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of the chapter, and it is pretty disappointing, but this is a little hook or those who are interested in reading Ghost! I think the idea is different and outside the box of the other novels, I have read.

In this first chapter, we got an important glimpse of Ghosts/Castles’ life. Definitely where the ghost was describing the events of leaving his father. It was pretty intense to read and is an interesting way to hook someone into the book. Even if you don’t agree with it, I think this first chapter, and what I know of the book, is super cool and interesting.

Character Thoughts

We only met a limited amount of characters in this chapter, but enough to learn more about the storyline and plot. Here is a list of the various characters we were introduced to.

  • Ghost
  • Mr. Charles
  • Mom/Ma
  • Dad

As I said, not a lot. But I think the character is pretty interesting and have a lot of things that make them special. For example, the Ghost’s father can get angry very easily.

But Mr. Charles seems very kind and thoughtful! It’s a really good mix of, toxic characters and fun and jolly characters! I wonder what characters we will meet, and if the characters we know are going to change in some way.

Questions I Still Have

Here is a list of questions I still have from reading the first chapter:

  1. Who are the kids on the track practicing?
  2. How is Ghosts mother?
  3. How are Ghost and his mom?
  4. Where do they live?
  5. Why was his dad sitting out?

Thanks For Listening

I hope this gave everyone a great hook into Ghost by Jason Reynolds. Have a great day, and let’s get onto our ending!
